Three teens disappear from same neighborhood

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A 14-year-old girl disappears on her way home from school, another is last seen near her home and a 16-year-old vanishes after leaving her fast-food job for the day.

ll from the same neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio, the girls disappeared within five blocks of each other over a four-year span, starting in 2003.

Agents and detectives from the FBI and Cleveland Police are looking into hundreds of leads in the cases and whether they may be linked, according to FBI Special Agent Scott Wilson in the agency's Cleveland bureau.

"We kind of put all three of these cases together to work them to see if there's any connection," Wilson said.

Amanda Berry, 16, vanished on April 21, 2003, after she left her job at a Burger King at about 7:30 p.m. But she never made it to her home just a few blocks away, the FBI says. Berry has pierced ears, a pierced left eyebrow and a scar on her lower abdomen. She would now be 22.

Georgina DeJesus was last seen at a pay phone around 3 p.m. on April 2, 2004, as she headed home from school. She and a friend had called the friend's mother seeking permission for a sleepover at DeJesus' house, but the answer was no.

The girls then parted ways, and DeJesus was never seen again. She was wearing a white jacket, a sky blue sweater, blue jeans and a cream shirt. She has a light birthmark on her right leg and pierced ears, the FBI says. DeJesus was 14 when she disappeared and would now be 19.

Ashley Summers, last seen July 6, 2007, has a heart-shaped tattoo with "Gene" on her upper arm. She was initially reported as a runaway after a family argument. "But the problem is, she's never been seen again," Wilson said. Summers, 14, would now be 15.

Citing FBI policy, Wilson declined to say whether there are persons of interest in any of the three cases. The girls did not know each other and the FBI would not say whether any of them had mutual friends or acquaintances.

"It's certainly very concerning to us that we have three young girls missing from the same general area and we have to look at every possibility of what happened to them," Wilson said.

Doesn't it seem like everyday now we are hearing about someone going missing.Now I know these are not all disappearances in the last week or anything,but it seems missing person cases are on the rise.When I read the story you posted the first thing i thought is,why can nobody find anything about these three young women.How do three women from the same area vanish into thin air,and nothing is ever found?Why is it everyday a child,woman,man goes missing and no one sees anything?Our world is full of sicko's and they are taking innocent people everyday.

Three girls,and their disappearances are spread apart.It makes you wonder if someone (god forbid) kept them alive for sometime and when he tired of them he got rid of them.It would make sense if these three cases are related,the time period between each makes sense.Like that sicko from New York,John Jamelske.He snatched women off the streets,kept them locked in his basement/dungeon.The only difference being when he tired of them he released them.The ones we know of that are alive anyways.Some he kept for a few months another over a year.Sorry step_mom,I just rambled on.What do you think?Have you heard any rumors or anything in your area about this at all?

I agree, Chris. I don't understand how people can just "vanish" into thin air and no one knows anything. I really hope no one took these girls and kept them alive to torture/abuse them. That would be awful. That would be more awful than just knowing their lives were taken, and I only HOPE that's not the case, either. And I agree, too, that it seems like missing person cases are on the rise...it's so sad. I also think that people are so busy anymore that they just don't pay attention to too much. I think there needs to be more awareness in this world.

As far as these cases go, I actually haven't heard anything. I only got a reminder when the news broadcast showed the family of Georgina Dejesus having a vigil in the same spot she went missing from five years ago. Which, I think, is another problem...these missing people are brought to the news, but if there's no news, then there's nothing about them, and people forget after that. The father of Georgina Dejesus, though, bless his heart, goes to that school area EVERY day to patrol and make sure the kids are in groups and stay safe. That is dedication and a big heart. I hope the family of all three of these girls get some answers.

If she’d been a cute young little girl from a rich suburb, you’d know her name. She’d be all over the news. Maybe even on Nancy Grace. But 14-year-old Ashley Summers was from the near-West side of Cleveland, from a ramshackle house on Holmden Street where the lawn has been overrun by little kids and dogs.

She was reported missing July 6, 2007. The local media regurgitated a press release, but didn’t bother to speak to the family. It’s been a year or so since I spoke with Ashley’s relatives. The information I discovered was passed to the FBI, but so far she has not been located and no one has been arrested for her abduction–if that’s what this was.

According to family members, when Ashley disappeared, so did all her clothes. At first, they thought she had run away, but when she did that before she always came back the next day. This time, she didn’t come home. She had a boyfriend named Gene, but he hasn’t seen her either, they say. A month after she disappeared, Ashley called home and said, “mom, I’m okay. Don’t worry”. But they wonder if she’s being kept somewhere against her will. One possible place for her to end up is with her mother’s brother, Kevin Donathan. But that would be a bad place to end up–Donathan has a rap sheet a mile long, with convictions for arson, assault, and theft.

Ashley was also known to frequent the McDonald’s on Lorain and the area in which Georgina Dejesus and Amanda Berry recently disappeared. Are all these cases linked? Remember, Berry’s family received a call after that girl disappeared in which a man said Amanda was alive and safe, too.

Anyone out there have info on Ashley??

If there were phone calls made to the families than more than one person out there knows something.How can people go on with their daily lives knowing a family is heartbroken with worry,and they hold the answer.I never knew about the calls until you posted them here step,now it seems clearer to me at least the two that had calls placed about them are sure to be related.

I agree, Chris....SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING, and I don't understand how people can just go on with their lives and not say anything. Something fishy is going on here.
