The Long Trail is a hiking trail in Vermont, running the length of the state (438 km). It is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States, constucted between 1910 and 1930 by the Green Mountain Club. At least 4 people, and possibly as many as eight or nine, have disappeared from this area between 1942 and 1950. Only one body was ever found. Paula Jean Welden set out on this trail for a day-hike on December 1, 1946. She was last seen heading northwards in the direction of Glastenbury Mountain. She was never seen again.

The first person to disappear was that of Middie Rivers. a 75- year- old deer hunter who knew the area of the trail near Mount Glastenbury very well. State police, soldiers, boy scouts and local residents, combed the the woods after he failed to return from a day's hunting on November 12, 1945, but to no avail.

After Paula Welden went missing, James Telford, a third victim was last seen on the trail on December 1, 1949. Early in 1950, Frieda Langier, who was described as an experienced Woodswoman, disappeared while hiking the trail. Her body was found on May 12, 1951, in an open spot in the woods that was apparently overlooked in earlier searches.

When Martha Jones disappeared on November 6, 1950, it was thought that she had run off to join her boyfriend in Virginia. When this was proven not to be the case, a search was launched with no results.

The last one to go missing was Frances Christman, who set out to visit a friend three miles away and was never seen again.

In all three cases there seems to be no connection except for the location and the time of year the disappearances occured, all of them happened in either November or December,

Trenny went missing on a field trip to the Smoky Mountains in October of 1976. She has now been missing for 33 years. Someone out there knows where she is and needs to unburden themselves.
