Body Of Missing San Jose Woman Found In Landfill
The body of 35-year-old Ann Lisa Nguyen was found in the Newby Island Landfill in Milpitas today at about 12:45 p.m., according to San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas.

Nguyen was reported missing Dec. 10 by her family. According to a flier posted by her family, Ann was last seen Dec. 8 in front of an apartment building on Alvin Avenue in San Jose.

Police have been searching the landfill for several days
Anthony Davis Evans, 45, is being held in connection with the alleged murder and is expected to appear in a Santa Clara County courtroom Friday.

Evans is being charged as a three strikes offender and faces a maximum possible sentence of 81 years to life in prison if convicted.

The prior felony convictions, which include arson and kidnapping, stem from 1992.

Suspect's Family Talks To NBC11

Family members of a man accused of killing a San Jose woman are defending the suspect.

Investigators said there is enough evidence against Evans to lead them to believe he killed her with a metal bar.

But in an exclusive interview with NBC11, family members said they don't believe the accusations and Evans is innocent until proven guilty.

"It was a shock. Like I said I grew up with him. And he had always been straightlined and stuff like that," said Evans' brother, Alonzo.
I've known him for five years. I've known him to go to church every Sunday. If not every Sunday then he would be working on that Sunday. I've known him to be real good with the kids," said Evans' sister-in-law, Jessica Martinez.

Martinez told NBC11 that Evans and Nguyen spent time together on a social basis, going to dinners and parties.

Nguyen's family said they do not believe she and Evans, a personal trainer, had a social relationship.

Investigators said there is enough evidence to charge Evans with killing Nguyen. During a search of his apartment, investigators found a bag containing bloody clothing, blood on a bedroom rug and Nguyen's car found parked in front of Evans' apartment.

Investigators continued Friday to search through a Milpitas landfill for Nguyen's body. Their search at the landfill is based on interviews with Evans, NBC11's Marianne Favro reported.

If he is convicted of murder, he would face up to 81 years in prison. He is a three strikes offender already, police said.

"We've alleged five strike priors," Deputy District Attorney James Gibbons-Shapiro said.

The prior felony convictions, which include arson and kidnapping, stem from 1992. Gibbons-Shapiro would not provide any further details about them.

About 15 people were searching the Milpitas landfill for the woman and had not found her, Favro said. If they cannot find her body there, officers said they would search nearby or at other landfills.

Evans appeared in court for his arraignment, which was postponed. He looked "stoic," Favro reported. Evans is still in custody. The arraignment proceedings will resume next week, Favro said.

Nguyen's family said they have no interest in hearing what the Evans family had to say. The Nguyen family said they are putting their trust in police.

Nguyen was last seen Dec. 8.

Finding a body in a landfill is extremely difficult under the best of conditions.
It is encouraging to know, however, that it can be done.
I wish it wasn't so easy to put a body in a dumpster.
