Police scouring Bowen Island for missing woman
The search for a Squamish, B.C. woman, who has was last seen at a house party on June 20th, has turned to Bowen Island, where residents are being asked to check their rural properties and out buildings for anything suspicious.

Sea to Sky Regional Police Services said the search for 17-year-old Jody Henrickson has commenced on Bowen Island, utilizing RCMP air and marine services.

Bowen Island is a 20-minute ferry ride from the Vancouver suburb of Horseshoe Bay.

Police dogs along with North Shore Search and Rescue members have also joined the hunt for the missing teen.

The search is concentrating on Bowen Island as investigators have determined that Henrickson was last seen there on June 20th between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. after she attended a house party with friends and acquaintances.

Police are asking residents of Bowen Island to be vigilant. They are also telling anyone who was at the house party on the evening of June 19th through to the morning of June 20th to contact police at 604-947-0516.

Meanwhile, her cousin, Crystal, called CTV on Sunday to say that she is the spokesperson for the family and it looks to them like Jody has run away, even though it would be very uncharacteristic of her to do so.

They're asking that in case Jody's watching, news organizations get the message out that the family isn't made and her and that she should call home as soon as possible.

Police said a TIP line is available by calling 1-604-947-0516

Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1- 800 - 222 - TIPS (8477).

Missing Squamish teen had 'no contact' order against ex-boyfriend

Knowing this news now..I pray that Jodi is OK!!!!

Jodi Henrickson, the 17-year-old Squamish girl who was reported missing on Bowen Island last Wednesday, was recently granted a "no contact" order against an ex-boyfriend who was found guilty of assaulting her.

The ex-boyfriend divided his time between Squamish and Bowen Island, and was ordered a few weeks ago to stay away from Henrickson, said her brother, Rob.

Gavin Arnott, 20, was convicted of common assault on June 5, stemming from an incident on April 8 in Squamish. He was given 18 months probation and was ordered to stay away from Henrickson as part of his conditional discharge. He was also prohibited from possessing firearms for the next five years, according to North Vancouver Court Services.

Rob also said his sister's ex-boyfriend attended the same house party as her on June 20. It was the last time Henrickson, the soon-to-be Grade 12 Howe Sound Secondary student, was reportedly seen before she disappeared sometime after 6 a.m. Her parents reported her missing when she failed to come home on June 24 as planned.

"He definitely was [at the party]," said Rob. "I think it's important."

Squamish RCMP Cpl. Dave Ritchie confirmed Henrickson's ex-boyfriend was at a party on the island the night she disappeared, but said he couldn't comment on the contact — if any — that he'd had with the teen.

"Investigators have spoken to him," he said. "I don't know what went on or what transpired there. I don't know if investigators are divulging that yet or not."

Rob said his sister did not know her ex-boyfriend would be at the party. Henrickson's cousin, Crystal, said that the he ran in the same group of friends.

"It wasn't a very good relationship," she said. "It wasn't somebody that her parents wanted her to be with."

Henrickson's mother, Nancy, was supposed to talk about her daughter's disappearance at a news conference on Tuesday but was too "fragile and emotional," said Ritchie.

Police are still combing the island for clues and interviewing witnesses, whom Ritchie said were being cooperative with police, contrary to initial reports.

Crystal said her cousin was always in touch with her friends, using the networking site Facebook regularly. She hasn't been active on the site since her disappearance.

A group, "Let's find Jodi Henrickson!!" now has 660 members, up from 450 on Monday. "We're still dealing with it as a missing person. We haven't categorized it in any direction," said Ritchie. "We don't know if she left the island by some other marine service, or has some medical issue, or has met some foul play. We're really trying to narrow it down and get some direction so we can go at it."

The teen was carrying a small purse with few clothes when she left for Bowen Island and did not have a cell phone, since it was recently cancelled due to high bills. She initially told her family she was going camping on Cultus Lake. Rob said it is unusual for his sister to be out of touch with her family, especially their mother.

"It's not a runaway. At all," he said. "Something happened to her when she was on Bowen."

Anyone with information is asked to call 604-947-0516, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Father says son was not involved in B.C. teen's disappearance
Friends say Gavin Arnott was drunk, out of control the night ex-girlfriend went missing

The father of one of the last people to see a 17-year-old Squamish girl before she went missing on Bowen Island almost two weeks ago says his son had nothing to do with her disappearance.

Jodi Henrickson was last seen around dawn on June 20 on the island, where she had attended several house parties. She was reported missing four days later when she failed to come home to Squamish, approximately 60 km northeast of Bowen on the mainland.

One of the last people who might have seen Henrickson was her former boyfriend, Gavin Arnott.

According to court documents, Arnott, 20, was charged with assaulting Henrickson in April.

The Bowen Island resident entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 18 months' probation, one of the conditions of which was that he have no contact with Henrickson.

He's not the bad guy, says father
Arnott's father, Randy, said the news has suspicion running rampant on the tiny island northwest of Vancouver.

The situation has gotten so bad, he said, that he and his family no longer feel welcome because of suspicious glares from other locals.

It feels that we're being looked at and accused, and we've almost been held up in our own house, like, not wanting to go out in the public [because] people are looking at you that your son's the bad guy, which I don't believe he is," he said.

Arnott said the assault is being blown out of proportion.

"Even the original charge was a misdemeanor as much as anything, and they had been getting along since then, so I don't think that the way it's been portrayed is relative to the way it looks."

With the suspicion surrounding the family, Arnott said his son has been staying off the island with a family friend.

"He just doesn't know, but he was the last that saw her, and he's very scared right now."

Arnott said his son admitted he and Henrickson got into a fight the night she disappeared, but the younger Arnott insisted he walked away – and that was the last time he saw her.

Arnott is 'a little bit crazy,' says friend
However, friends say the young man was drunk and out of control the night Henrickson went missing.

"[Gavin] almost drove into the house… and we pulled him out of the car and duct taped him to a pole so he couldn't drive anymore," said friend Khole Dallas.

"I've known Gavin my whole life … He is a little bit crazy, I would say."

Derek Sinke, who attended the same party as Arnott, said the younger Arnott had always been odd.

"You never know what someone's capable of," Sinke said. "He's a little different to start out with, you know, so it kinda adds to speculation on the whole incident."

Sinke said Henrickson's disappearance has put the close-knit community on edge.

Meanwhile, the police search for Henrickson, which included helicopters and ground crews, was called off Thursday. Officials said it would only be resumed if new information came to light.

Nov. 20 will mark five months since the disappearance of Jodi Henrickson.

RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Dave Ritchie said last week he has no new developments to announce, but he did tell The Undercurrent the case is still being actively investigated.

The last reported sighting of the Squamish teen was in the early morning hours of June 20 after she had attended a party or parties.

A website put up by members of Jodi’s family marked the four-month anniversary of her disappearance last month. “It has now been four months since Jodi Henrickson went missing, with essentially no new information in the case,” the website says. “We are more or less in the exact same position as four months ago: knowing absolutely nothing.”

The website goes on to say it was not in their family member’s nature to “run away” or to “go any length of time without phoning home” and that when she left home “she left with a smile, with absolutely no negativity.”

The website also thanks people for their support and urges anyone who may know anything to call the Squamish RCMP.

On a number of occasions Cpl. Ritchie has told The Undercurrent that the investigative team is still treating the case as a missing persons file and, when asked, has declined to say if anyone was being actively investigated in her disappearance.

He has said they are “still just naming Jodi in the file.”

RCMP have said that cadaver sniffing dogs from Washington State were used in at least one of the numerous searches conducted on Bowen Island.

Cpl. Ritchie said any rumors people may have heard about the Henrickson case should be reported to allow the RCMP to “check it out and dispel it ourselves.”

Anyone wishing to pass on information can call the local detachment at 604-947-0516 or the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100. The anonymous Crime Stoppers tip number is 1-800-222-TIPS.
