This is definetely one of the strangest cases I've come across...
On August 20, 1978, Alvin Turner, Melvin Pittman, Randy Johnson, Ernest Taylor and Michael McDowel, all disappeared after playing basketball in Newark, New Jersey. The boys were all about 16 years of age. No activity has ever been detected on their Social Security numbers and none of them have applied for a driver`s license. The teens were last seen the evening they disappeared by a local contractor who routinely hired city teens for help with odd jobs. The contractor was questioned, but passed a polygraph test. Several days later, one of the parents received a call from a man claiming to tell her where the boys were for $750. Police traced the call to a pay phone, but when they arrived, the caller had fled. Police theorize that the boys ran away, but they parents don`t believe that that was the case. None of the boys had ever been in trouble before. The case is still classified as a missing persons case since no trace of the boys has ever been found.
