The search continues for a 15-year-old West Side girl who has been missing for more than a year. Local and federal law enforcement officials are asking for the public's help in finding Ashley Summers, who was reported missing from her West 96th Street home, near Madison Avenue, on July 6, 2007.

Ashley is considered an endangered juvenile be cause of her age and the length of time she has been missing, authorities said.

FBI spokesman Scott Wilson said there is no indication of foul play, but it is possible she is being held against her will.

The task force is working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Va., Wilson said.

Ashley is white, 5 feet 5, 130 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. She has a tattoo of a heart on one arm with the name "Gene" inscribed on it.

Anyone with information regarding Ashley, or other fugitives, is urged to call the Cleveland/Cuyahoga Fugitive/Gang Task Force at 216-522-1400 or the Cleveland Police Department's 1st District at 216-623-5118.

The identity of callers will remain confidential. Reward money is available.

The task force consists of members of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Cleveland Police Department, Ohio Adult Parole Authority and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department.

Its goal is arresting fugitives charged with such crimes as homicide, bank robbery, robbery, kidnapping, rape/sexual assault, felonious assault and arson.

Fugitives of the week also can be viewed online at cleveland.com/crime.

Where is Ashley Summers??

February 13, 2009 by James
Ashley Summers

Ashley Summers

If she’d been a cute young little girl from a rich suburb, you’d know her name. She’d be all over the news. Maybe even on Nancy Grace. But 14-year-old Ashley Summers was from the near-West side of Cleveland, from a ramshackle house on Holmden Street where the lawn has been overrun by little kids and dogs.

She was reported missing July 6, 2007. The local media regurgitated a press release, but didn’t bother to speak to the family. It’s been a year or so since I spoke with Ashley’s relatives. The information I discovered was passed to the FBI, but so far she has not been located and no one has been arrested for her abduction–if that’s what this was.

According to family members, when Ashley disappeared, so did all her clothes. At first, they thought she had run away, but when she did that before she always came back the next day. This time, she didn’t come home. She had a boyfriend named Gene, but he hasn’t seen her either, they say. A month after she disappeared, Ashley called home and said, “mom, I’m okay. Don’t worry”. But they wonder if she’s being kept somewhere against her will. One possible place for her to end up is with her mother’s brother, Kevin Donathan. But that would be a bad place to end up–Donathan has a rap sheet a mile long, with convictions for arson, assault, and theft.

Ashley was also known to frequent the McDonald’s on Lorain and the area in which Georgina Dejesus and Amanda Berry recently disappeared. Are all these cases linked? Remember, Berry’s family received a call after that girl disappeared in which a man said Amanda was alive and safe, too.

Anyone out there have info on Ashley??

Ashley Summers Last Seen on Holmden Ave.

February 25, 2009 by James

Big Willie Has Nothing to Smile About

I spoke with the mother and other family members of missing 14-year-old Ashley Summers, today. I hope to publish some better photos of Ashley in the near future. The teen has been missing since July 6, 2007. At the time, she was living with a great-uncle on Holmden Ave.

Holmden Ave. is located in a dangerous West Side neighborhood. A small-time gangbanger named Eric Wilson was known to hang out in that area in 2007. Wilson is best known in Cleveland as the man who shot Cookie Thomas, a 12-year-old girl who got caught in the crossfire after a drug deal went bad. Instead of manning up, Wilson ran away and hid in Montana, until the police caught him, there. Last year, Wilson was found guilty of kidnapping and raping a woman in 2004. During that rape he held the woman captive in an East Side apartment until she escaped.

Wilson was often called “Big” or “Big Willie”, though, from what I’ve heard, the nickname was a bit of a misnomer, if you know what I mean. Also, he writes like a 7th grade girl.

Wilson has a pretrial for another kidnapping/rape charge scheduled for March 4 at the Justice Center in Cuyahoga County.

Any Big Willie fans out there know if he crossed paths with Ashley? As always, your tips will remain anonymous.

Lakewood resident continues two-year search for missing teen Ashley Summers
Posted by Kate Spirgen May 19, 2009 14:33PM
Categories: Breaking News

Lakewood resident Linda Summers is continuing the search for 15-year-old Ashley Summers who went missing from the west side of Cleveland nearly two years ago.

Ashley went missing July 6, 2007 when she ran away from a relative's home on Holmden Avenue in Cleveland. She is the daughter of Linda Summers's husband's oldest daughter.
Ashley Nicole Summers went missing from Holmden Avenue in Cleveland nearly two years ago.

The family has not had any sightings of Ashley since November of 2007. Summers and her family spotted Ashley from their car near West 44th Street with her hair cut and died blonde but she disappeared before Summers could turn the car around.

"The area she was last seen in is a known prostitution area, so she could be in the area or something could have happened to her," Summers said. "It's hard to say. If anything, I would think that she's not in the area. They take these girls hours away so that they can't be found."

Summers's main source of frustration is the length of time it took to get Ashley's photo into circulation. Ashley was placed on the National Clearing House in June of last year and was not classified as an endangered runaway until December.

It was five months before any photographs of Ashley were circulated at all.

"That time period is so critical," Summers said. "I think if we could have gotten our photos out to the media sooner it really would have made a difference. It has just been really hard because of the lack of attention. I mean, a 13-year-old girl runs away and nobody knows where she is and nobody wants to hear about it?"

In honor of National Missing Children's Day on May 25, Summers will share her family's story at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 15700 Detroit Ave. during the church's Family Fun Safety Night which begins at 6 p.m. May 29.

The church hosts family fun nights each month, but this month's dinner will be focused on child safety.

The church, where Summers is also a member, will host a potluck dinner followed by a safety video aimed at children age 2 to 12 years old. The church will also photograph and fingerprint kids of all ages for identification kits that will be given to their parents and guardians.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Ashley Summers can contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at (800) 843-5678.

To read more about Ashley Summers, pick up the May 21 edition of the "Lakewood Sun Post."
