Missing persons tip line set up

A toll-free number will make it easier for tipsters to call a private investigator searching for answers to the number of missing and murdered women along Hwy. 16.

Ray Michalko, of Valley Pacific Investigations in Surrey, will soon be taking calls from those with information at 1-866-962-5585.

If he doesn’t pick up, a voice mail will record a message.

Michalko decided to get the number after learning that some of his callers didn’t have a long distance phone plan and have to go somewhere to borrow a phone.

“They’ll leave a message and I’m having problems getting back to them so I just wanted to make myself more accessible,” Michalko said.

The private eye has made several trips to the northwest to check out leads.

The toll-free line was relatively cheap to have set up and he just has to pay for the long distance calls.

“I end up doing that anyway especially if they miss me and have to leave a message,” he said.

He considered having a toll-free number at the start of his investigation but was concerned about the “off the wall” callers, which have been very few.

Michalko is interested in talking to anyone who has information about the disappearances and murders of women along Hwy. 16 between Prince Rupert and Prince George.

That stretch has been dubbed the Highway of Tears.

Anyone with information who doesn’t want to talk to police can contact him.

His toll-free number is 1-866-962-5585.

Calls go directly to his cell phone (604-831-5585) or to voice mail if he can’t pick up. The number will be available for service Dec. 5.
