State Police investigators probing the death of Drew Peterson's third wife have custody of the bathtub where the woman was found dead in 2004, authorities said.

Investigators hauled away the tub in recent days for use in the future prosecution of the homicide of Kathleen Savio, said Charles Pelkie, a spokesman for the Will County state's attorney's office.

The bathtub removal was done with the full cooperation of the family that now owns the home, Pelkie said.

The family was compensated, a source said.

Savio, 40, was in the midst of a nasty divorce from Drew Peterson, then a Bolingbrook police sergeant, when she was found dead in the bathtub of her Bolingbrook home on March 1, 2004. There was no water in the bathtub, and her hair was drenched with blood from a head laceration.

Her death was first ruled an accidental drowning, but investigators reopened the case after Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared Oct. 29 from their Bolingbrook home.

A new forensic exam in November ruled Savio's death a homicide.

The Sun-Times has reported that Stacy Peterson told a clergyman her husband boasted he killed Savio but made it look like an accident. Drew Peterson has been named as a suspect in Stacy's disappearance.

He has denied involvement in Savio's death or Stacy Peterson's disappearance.

I am very disturbed that Savio's death was initially ruled an accident. If that coroner wasn't bribed, he must have some other motive for covering for the killer. An even bigger mystery is how he got away with saying there was no sign of foull play, while ignoring the head wound.
A crooked coroner is about as dangerous as a crooked cop.

What concerned me were the reports that Dr. Baden gave this year after her body was exhumed. There were numerous marks that were consistent with a police baton / nightstick on her extremeties.

There, you see what I mean?
Evidence of beating was found on the body after it was buried for some time.
Why wasn't this seen when the the body was still fresh? Of course, it had to have been.
Wounds like this don't often happen while taking a bath.
This person was beaten to death.
Thanks alabamamom.

Media Alert: Battle Over the Estate of Drew Peterson's Ex-Wife Heads to Court

Drew Peterson appealed the reopening of Kathleen Savio's estate and appointment of new executors. Oral arguments are set for Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The following is a Media Alert from criminal defense attorney Joel A. Brodsky regarding his client Drew Peterson.

What: Oral arguments begin in Drew Peterson appeal of decision to reopen late wife's estate.

When: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 1:15 pm CT

Where:
Illinois Appellate Court, Third District
1004 Columbus St., Ottawa, Illinois

Note: Drew Peterson will be present at the hearing.

More Info:
Drew Peterson and his uncle James Carroll appealed the re-opening of the Kathleen Savio estate and the appointment of Ann Mario Doman and Henry Savio, Savio's siblings, as new joint executors.

Five of Savio's relatives filed a joint petition in March, 2008 to re-open the estate to prepare for a wrongful death lawsuit against Drew Peterson, according to their lawyer. Two weeks later they filed another petition asking that Doman and Mr. Savio be named as executors.

Peterson's attorney Joel Brodsky filed a seven-page response asking that it be thrown out because the statute of limitations had expired.

The judge ruled in favor of Savio's relatives on both petitions.

Peterson is now appealing those decisions.

Savio was Peterson's third wife. Her body was found in a circular bathtub on March 1, 2004. Her death was initially ruled an accidental drowning. However after Stacy Peterson's disappearance, her body was exhumed and underwent forensic examination when it was ruled a homicide.

Drew Peterson denies any involvement in his wife Stacy's disappearance or in Savio's death. He has not been charged in connection with either crime.

Drew Peterson told WBBM radio's Steve Miller that "there is harmonious bliss at the Peterson household" since his new girlfriend and her two children moved into his home.

Christina Raines, 24, has been in Peterson's Bolingbrook home for almost a week and she's still there. That's good news.

"I've been lucky ... in cards and lucky in love," he said. "To have the love of a young, beautiful woman is a very special thing."

The former Bolingbrook police sergeant said that the Raines' children get along well with his kids, and that the two of them are planning to get married "somewhere down the road."

Miller asked if Peterson had given Raines an engagement ring. Drew said no, but that he had given her a pair of earrings for Christmas. A jeweler friend will be consulted about an engagement ring at some point, he said.

"We'll have to see how life folds out," he said of their wedding plans.

Peterson told the interviewer that his gal pal is a little scared.

"She's not scared of me. She's scared of the media," he said.

Miller asked about problems Christina has had with her ex-boyfriend and the father of her children, "two different guys," he said.

"Yea, two different guys," Peterson said. "Both have been abusive to her in the past, and now she's with me."

Family of Drew Peterson's late wife files lawsuit

CHICAGO (AP) — The family of the third wife of former Bolingbrook, Ill., police officer Drew Peterson has filed a wrongful death lawsuit that alleges Peterson killed her.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Will County by the family of Kathleen Savio has been expected, particularly after a court ruled against Peterson this year in his battle over Savio's estate.

Authorities have said Peterson is a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy, but they have not made similar statements in Savio's death. Her death in 2004 was originally classified as accidental, but was later ruled a homicide.

Peterson has denied any involvement in Savio's death or in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson. His attorney Joel Brodsky says all the lawsuit does is hurt Peterson's children.
