It was the middle of the night on June 14, 2007 when, Phoenix police say, Juan Salvatore Acevedo made his move.
Around 1 a.m., cops say Acevedo broke into a townhome through a window. Inside, six siblings slept unaware of Acevedo's presence. Police tell AMW that Acevedo pulled down an 8-year-old girls' pants while she slept and attempted to undress the girl's 6-year-old sister as well.
The 8-year-old woke up and ran to her parents' room as Acevedo fled the scene, according to authorities. When the family first reported the incident, there were few clues to go on.
Neighbors near the 4700 block of East Portland Street say they had seen a man riding his bike in the neighborhood earlier the day before.
Months later, cops said they had a break in the case after they matched physical evidence from a peeping-tom incident involving Acevedo the week after the June break-in. Police said they had all they needed to issue a warrant for Acevedo's arrest.
Police say that Acevedo gets around on a bike and has worked as a local chef or line cook. During an earlier arrest, he admitted to police that he got sexual satisfaction from molesting young girls and investigators believe he could still be targeting female adolescents.
